What a week!

It's been crazy here in Lillestrøm the last week! The other day we had lunch with a ward member who lives in a tiny cabin with no electricity or running water. I was a little nervous about drinking the water he had because it was in a plastic jug and I could tell it wasn't fresh. But all the other missionaries who had been there before were drinking it and I was really thirsty! So…

Almost Out of Quarantine

Tomorrow I will be done with quarantine in Norway! They require all people coming from the United States to stay mostly in their apartments for 10 days. We were able to go on walks and go grocery shopping though, so it hasn't been bad. I'm just excited to finally get to know the people here in person. We have to use Norwegian when we are out of the apartment, when we teach lessons, and we…

Jeg er i Norge!

I made it to Norway! This is the fourth day I have been here; I still can't believe it. I flew from Grand Forks to Minneapolis, then to New York, then to Amsterdam before finally flying to Oslo. I'm living in Lillestrøm, which is just a 15 minute train ride from Oslo, Norway's capital. It is so beautiful here. The church in neighboring Romerike is the biggest in Norway and it's absolutely beautiful. My companion…

I’m Going to Norway!

It has been a CRAZY week. It feels that way every week but it is especially true this time. On Wednesday my mission president called while we were in the middle of a lesson. Sister Campbell set her phone aside, but when she picked it up a few minutes later to pull up the scriptures, she saw a text that said, "Sister Whoolery, will you call me about your assignment to Norway?" My heart started…

More Service

Hi everyone! This is my update from last week that I didn't have the chance to post. This week we worked in 4 different people's gardens. I have an awful tan line where my gardening gloves end! It's been good to get to know people in the community. All of the people we did service for were either not members of the church or just one spouse was a member. The most exciting thing that…

Lots of food!

Hi all! This past week we've done a lot of service again. We directed traffic at a free produce event, weeded someone's yard, and painted a playground for Parks and Recreation. That was a lot of fun, I love painting things! We've also been making a lot of good food! Lately we've made miso chicken, samosas, aloo gobi, homemade bread, and enchiladas. We got hot dogs with barbeque beans, bacon, and little fries on them a…

New Companion!

Hi everyone! Last week, we played volleyball with the Elders in our district, so I had no time to write emails. Long story short: I am not good at volleyball and this time was no exception. The most exciting thing that has happened in the last couple weeks is that we got a new companion last Wednesday! It's Sister Campbell, a.k.a Sarah Campbell, one of my friends from high school! She reached out to me…

A Huge Mess

Today has been a very strange preparation day. Right after I woke up and getting some water from the kitchen, I heard my companion say, "Oh no. This is so bad. This is really really bad." It turns out that at some point our huge dispenser of laundry detergent fell off the washing machine and the cap smashed, pouring detergent absolutely everywhere. We spent hours and hours cleaning it up with limited supplies! Last preparation…

Surprise Transfer!

One of my companions, Sister Cutler, was transferred on Thursday so there are just two of us now. It was really sad to see her go. We got a call Wednesday night that she would be leaving the next day for Bismarck. She had bought 5 yards of soft fabric so I could make her a blanket, but I hadn't had the chance to start it. So I started right away and worked on it…

Going to Colorado?

I thought nothing could be crazier than last week, but I was wrong! Our mission president, President Howell, came all the way to Grand Forks to do interviews. That took the better part of our Friday. My interview went really well! I am the head of indoor service for the mission, so I showed him a few documents I had made to help missionaries and the mission office coordinate the service projects I had suggested…
